The Tri-City Herald’s endorsement of Dan Newhouse to represent our 4th Congressional District won’t sit well with our Tea Party adherents. They unabashedly support Eltopia farmer and former football player, Clint Didier. Sure, Newhouse served four terms in the state House of Representatives, and was the director of our State’s Department of Agriculture. And he’s held several leadership positions with state organizations, but does he wear 2 Super Bowl rings?
I met Clint Didier at CBC after the candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters. During the forum Didier railed against the EPA, the DOE, the ED, and just about any other 2 and 3-letter acronym you can think of, including, and especially, the UN. I shook his hand and thanked him for his willingness to run. “I’m not in the race for the glory. I’ve had the glory,” he told me, holding up his right hand with the two enormous rings on it, while I rubbed my hand trying to get the feeling back in it.
Newhouse, and candidates George Cicotte, a lawyer, and Janea Holmquist Newbry, a Washington State senator, may have the background and experience one might seek in a replacement for Doc, but what are they wearing on their right hand?
